Una diligencia para solicitar cualquier papel en Colombia, no sólo es burocrática sino costosa. Y eso que ahora hay una ley anti trámites… ja ja ja, permítanme reírme.
Yo ya había empezado a recolectar la información que uno cree es más difícil de obtener. Por ejemplo, lo que necesitamos de otras ciudades, como el registro de nacimiento de Mauro y mis notas de 6 y 7 grado. Pero lo disque fácil lo dejé para pedirlo al final, como buena Colombiana. Ay Dios mío, si alguno estudió en la Universidad La Piloto, prepárese. Cada sábana de notas vale un riñón, se demora eternidades y lo atienden a uno como si uno estuviera robándose algo. Luego las certificaciones laborales. Generalmente esto no tiene problema. Sin embargo, como esta certificación debía ser tan específica se demoró tiempos, mientras la aprobaban los jefes inmediatos y luego recursos humanos. Tomaron semanas en ambas empresas.
Ahora la certificación de las EPS, tuve que pedirlas como 5 o 6 veces! Como todo con ellos, así no se puede, eso no es posible, si lo quiere así se le demora 1 mes… en fin después de mucho rogar y pedir, logramos obtener las certificaciones como se necesitaban.
Soldado advertido..
Este es mi consejo para todos, una vez tengan la lista de documentos, empiecen a averiguar que les piden, cuánto cobran y cuánto se demoran. A veces uno cree que cosas tan sencillas como una sábana de notas es fácil y rápido, pero universidades como La Piloto han encontraron negocio en eso. Las entidades estatales y semi privadas como las EPS y algunos fondos de pensiones también son una desgracia cuando se requieren documentos que no están en sus “predeterminados”. Hay muchos costos asociados que ninguna agencia migratoria conoce, así que prepárense para tener buen cupo en la tarjeta de crédito o unos buenos ahorros para este propósito.
Me tarde más o menos un mes para lograr reunir todos los papeles. Pero lo logramos. Llenamos todos los formularios que nos pedían, escaneamos todos los documentos, pagamos los derechos para aplicar y enviamos los documentos a México, el 25 de Octubre de 2011.
Estábamos felices y emocionados! Ya pronto veríamos nuestro sueño hecho realidad! Lo que no sabíamos era todo el camino que aun nos quedaba por delante.

A Canada Immigration Story
A diligence to request any paper in Colombia, is not only bureaucratic but expensive. And now there is now an anti-paper law … ha ha ha, let me laugh.
I had already started collecting the information that I believed was harder to obtain. For example, what we need from other cities, like Mauro’s birth certificate or my transcripts from 6 and 7 grade. But the “easy” ones, I left them for the last minute, as any good Colombia would do. Oh my God, if anyone studied at La Piloto University, get ready. They will charge tons of money for the transcripts, will take eternities and they treat you as if you were stealing something. Then the work certifications. Generally, this has no problem. However, as this certification had to be so specific it took time, while it was approved by the immediate bosses and then by human resources. They took weeks in both companies.
Now the EPS certification, I had to ask for it like 5 or 6 times! As everything with them, there will be lots of excuses: “well you cannot, that is not possible, if you want it like this it takes 1 month”. Finally, after a lot of begging, we got the certifications as needed.

This is my advice to all, once you have the list of documents; start to find out what they ask, how much they charge and how long they take. Sometimes you think that things as simple as a transcript is easy and fast, but universities like La Piloto seem to have found a business in that. Public and semi-private entities such as EPS and some pension funds are also a disgrace when documents that are not “predetermined” are required. There are many associated costs that no immigration agency knows, so be prepared to have a good credit card or good savings for this purpose.
It took me about a month to get all the papers together. But we did it. We filled out all the forms they requested, we scanned all the documents, we paid the fees to apply and we sent the documents to Mexico, on October 25, 2011.
We were so happy and excited! Soon we would see our dream come true! What we did not know was the whole path that still remained ahead of us.
